Academics To Hold Obama Supporters Accountable
By Susan Brinkmann, For The Bulletin
A group of academics from around the country have joined forces with Princeton political science professor Robert George to launch a new Web site that will hold anti-abortion Obama supporters accountable for their vote by presenting the facts about the president’s policy decisions.
“[With this Web site], everyone who offered an opinion on these issues, the effect of Obama’s policies, the sincerity of his claims, could be held accountable,” Dr. George told The Daily Princetonian.
Called The Moral Accountability Project, the site features President Barack Obama’s complete record on the life issues. It also documents his promises to fund embryonic stem cell research, enact the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), which would overturn every existing abortion restriction in the country and to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act, which protects states against being forced to recognize same-sex marriages contracted in other states.
The Web site will also feature news updates and articles about the president’s decisions on these issues.
As the Web site states: “With each assault by the Obama administration on laws and policies upholding the sanctity of human life and the dignity of marriage, we will ask all Catholics and Evangelicals, including those who supported Obama, to join us in resisting these assaults. That is our mission at www.moralaccountability.com.”
Everyone is invited to the project, especially those who are against abortion but who “joined with Planned Parenthood, the National Abortion Rights Action League and similar organizations” and voted for Mr. Obama because of the economy, the site states.
They need to not only see the consequences of their actions, but to be given an opportunity to “join us now in repelling the attacks that will be launched against life and marriage by this administration.”
Joining Dr. George in this effort is a long list of distinguished academics, including Drs. Francis Beckwith of Baylor University and Gerard V. Bradley of the University of Notre Dame.
Dr. George is concerned that Mr. Obama has already acted in favor of the pro-abortion position, revoking the Mexico City Policy that prohibited all non-governmental organizations receiving government money from promoting or performing abortions internationally.
“That’s the first thing he did because he could do it by executive order,” Dr. George said. “So now American taxpayers’ money will fall into the coffers of abortion clinics, Planned Parenthood and other organizations that make abortions more widely available abroad.”
Should the death toll mount during the coming administration, “In solidarity with the victims, we will document it as best we can,” the site states, “and we will demand moral accountability.”
